Forwarded on behalf of the Drainage and Flood Risk Manager
As I’m sure you are aware, Shropshire was impacted by some intense rainfall for several hours yesterday and into the evening. Council teams are out across the County this morning arranging cleanup following the event, but in order to gain a better understanding of the impacts in specific areas of the County we would appreciate any local information you are able to provide.
I would appreciate it if you could provide me with any information on the following:
- Any highways that remain flooded this morning, particularly A and B roads.
- Any internal flooding of properties (internal flooding includes habitable areas of properties, not gardens or outbuildings).
- Any business flooding (as above this includes business critical areas, not yards or storage areas)
- Any photos of the flooding that may be useful for future investigations showing the source/cause of the flooding.
- Any other pertinent information you feel may be valuable.
The vast majority of the flooding yesterday was caused by runoff from land and a saturated catchment. No highway drainge system in the world has the capacity to deal with this volume of rainfall, and once the rain stopped most floods then drained away overnight.
Whilst teams may not be able to get to every location today, this information will assist in planning our response over the next 24/48 hours.
Many thanks for your help on this.
